Our History

In the early 1950's the Lord brought to the Three Lakes area people who knew and loved Him. As they vacationed here in the summertimes, God grew in them a love for the people that lived here year round and a desire to see a church planted in the town where people could come and learn to know and love Christ and live their lives in vital union to Him. One older woman expressed it this way, "There are lambs in Three Lakes that are not being fed. Jesus is asking you who know him, 'Do you love Me? Then, feed My lamb.'" These vacationers, lovers of Jesus Christ, prayed faithfully that God, someday, would do just that.

In the late 70's, in answer to those prayers, the Lord began to bring different families to live year round in Three Lakes and collect them around Himself and His love for the lost sheep of Three Lakes. The prayer work begun in the 50's grew stronger. A few home Bible studies were begun and hungry hearts found the Living Jesus Christ and lives and families were changed by Him.

By the early 80's, a deep desire to begin an official church took hold in the new believers as well as the older. In June 1984, God opened wide the door to begin the Three Lakes Evangelical Free Church with a core group of 40 people meeting in the Three Lakes elementary school auditorium on Sunday evenings, pastored by Dan Grell, who then also pastored the Conover Evangelical Free Church.

God did many miracles in those early days affirming His Hand on the little group. By January 1985, six short months later, the group was able to call their first full-time pastor, David Addington. In yet only 18 more months, by June 1986, God Himself provided for the beautiful sanctuary that today is the home of the Three Lakes Evangelical Free Church at 1614 Hwy 32. "The time is now," seemed to be God's word over His work in those early years.

Over thirty years later, His work stands now as a testimony to His faithfulness and His unfailing love for His lambs in Three Lakes. The mission of the church was and continues to be to let God establish a place and a people through whom Jesus Christ makes His Presence known in our community. God Himself birthed His work in our hearts through prayer and His Word, the Bible. Through prayer and His Word, He has faithfully led us through glorious seasons as well as darker seasons. Through prayer and His Word, we lean on Him to lead for what He has in mind for His future work through us in this community He loves so much.
